Installation

The installation of GeekTool is very simple, it is a single file to drop in the right location. It is easiest on Panther than on Jaguar, but that should not be a problem.

If you avec Panther (Mac OS 10.3)

Just double-click on the GeekTool.prefpane icon, System Preferences will open, asking you if you want to make a global install, or make it available just for the current user. See below to know what it means.

If you avec Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2)

Copy GeekTool.prefPane in your user's Library/PreferencePanes/ directory, or the global /Library/PreferencePanes/ (see below to know what it means)

If you have Puma (Mac OS 10.1)

Forget it, GeekTool is not compatible with Puma.

Global vs Local installation

If you want GeekTool to be available for all users on the system, you should install it into /Library/PreferencePanes from the root directory of your disk. But if you want just your user to be able to use GeekTool, install it in the same directory, but starting from your home.

Some times, the directory does not exists yet, you will have to create it by hand, be carefull to respect the case and the exact name "PreferencePanes".
